Anyone who’s anyone in the design industry should know already who Chuck Anderson is – or knows at least his moniker, NoPattern – and know that Chuck is one of the world’s leading designers having worked for such well-known companies such as Vans, Reebok, Mountain Dew, Microsoft, Warner Brothers, and ESPN. As well as leading the field of design, Chuck Anderson also focuses on personal art, design, and photography as well as collaborates with non-profits such as Invisible Children, charity:water, WordMadeFlesh, and The ADL, and was named as a Design Icon by Computer Arts Magazine in 2008. All this has been acheived without going to college or university and no formal training – which gives great hope to self-learners like myself!
NoPattern – Chuck Anderson’s art and design studio – was founded in 2003 after he graduated from high school, and since then his client list has ever increased to read more like a Forbes list than a client list. As well as work for clients, Chuck Anderson also releases a lot of high-quality artwork for sale via NP&CO, an online store selling books and prints. One of my personal favourites sold in the NP&CO store was the limited edition poster called ‘Go Do Something’ which influenced my very own Absolution design, but along with ‘Go Do Something’ every piece in the store would look great on any aspiring artist’s wall.
As well as influencing a lot of design work that I do, Chuck Anderson remains the inspiration behind a lot of artists work across the internet, from design screen work to print. One notable designer I immediately thought of was Rachel Shillcock, with Rachel citing Chuck Anderson’s work as the push she needed to go into design which is a massive compliment.
There isn’t much more you can say about Chuck’s work other than you won’t find a more inspirational digital artist out there and what makes it even more special is that he’s only 26, meaning there’s plenty more in the tank! And I, for one, can’t wait. Enjoy the showcase.
